Literature Circles
These are an opportunity for students to be part of a book club and read a book with their peers over a period of time and share in depth discussion about the book and the overall topic of the Holocaust. Each week the students will get a 75 minute block to read, a 75 minute block to do the required assignment for the discussion session and then they will get one 75 minute block to have a group discussion about the weekly reading. Depending on the book they have chosen will depend on the length of reading due each week. The following are the important dates to keep in mind.

Oratory Competition
Being involved in such a program provides young people with excellent opportunities to develop their skills in public speaking, poise and self-confidence! The Theme this year is, "How My Optimism Will Help Me Press on to Greater Achievements of the Future". We will hand out the packages with all the necessary information to the students on Tuesday January 20th. From then on they will work on their speeches with the following as a guide for their schedule:

Jan 21 - Brainstorm/Organize/Plan their speech
Jan 27 - Write First Draft
Jan 28 - Edit/Peer Edit First Draft
Feb 2 - Review/Write 2nd Draft
Feb 3 - Edit/Peer Edit 2nd Draft
Feb 5 - Review/Final Edit
Feb 11 - Final Review
Feb 13 - Hand in Final Copy/Practice Speech
Feb 23 - Practice Speech
Feb 24 - Classroom Speak Off
Feb 25 - Classroom Speak Off
Mar 26 - School Speech Competition in the afternoon
Apr 21 - "Club" Speak Off
